Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 12 Competition
Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 12 is part of Glengyle Distillery’s popular Heavily Peated series and offers a much smokier style than the distillery’s lighter Kilkerran releases.
Batch 12 was bottled at 58.4% ABV and matured using a combination of 90% ex-Bourbon and 10% ex-Sherry casks. The Bourbon-led maturation brings sweetness and fruit, while the Sherry influence adds extra richness and depth.
Bottled at cask strength, with natural colour and without chill filtration, this is a bold Campbeltown whisky with plenty of character.
About Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 12
Kilkerran whisky is produced at Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown, one of Scotland’s smallest but most distinctive whisky regions.
The Heavily Peated series has become well known amongst whisky fans for combining powerful peat smoke with the oily, fruity and slightly maritime style associated with Campbeltown malt whisky.
Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 12 delivers that combination at full cask strength, making it a great bottle for fans of smoky Scotch who want something with more than just peat.
Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 12 Tasting Notes
The nose brings creamy notes of butterscotch and caramel, alongside rye bread, tea leaf and smoke.
On the palate, the whisky is oily and full-bodied with notes of brandy snaps, peaches and pears, combined with soot, smoke and glowing embers.
The finish is long and complex, with touches of lemon sherbet, honeycomb and mint, followed by lingering earthy peat smoke.
