The world of travel retail whisky has become increasingly exciting in 2026, with some of Scotland's best-known distilleries introducing exclusive expressions designed specifically for international travellers.

Once associated primarily with oversized bottles and familiar airport gift sets, travel retail is now home to innovative cask finishes, specially designed collections and limited-edition releases that cannot always be found on the high street.

From GlenDronach's city-inspired House Editions to Glenfiddich's new Voyage Collection, 2026 has delivered plenty for whisky enthusiasts to discover.

At Whisky Globetrotters, we're particularly interested in these releases because some eventually find their way beyond airport duty-free shops and into specialist UK retailers, giving collectors a chance to enjoy something a little different without needing to book a flight.

GlenDronach House Editions – Three Exclusive Whiskies

One of 2026's most interesting travel retail launches comes from The GlenDronach.

Introduced in July, the House Editions collection draws inspiration from three European cities: Seville, Venice and Paris. Each expression uses a distinctive combination of casks to create its own character.

The Sevillian Room is particularly interesting because it combines three different styles of sherry cask maturation and comes in a generous one-litre bottle. The Venetian and Parisian expressions are both presented in 70cl bottles.

Developed under Master Blender Rachel Barrie, the range celebrates the distillery's long-standing association with sherry cask maturation.

For collectors who enjoy richly matured Highland single malts, these are releases worth investigating.

Glenfiddich Voyage Collection – Four New Travel Retail Expressions

In July 2026, Glenfiddich unveiled its new Voyage Collection, a permanent travel retail range replacing the previous Perpetual Collection.

The four whiskies demonstrate different approaches to whisky maturation and finishing:

  • Warehouse Eight Solera – an expression celebrating Glenfiddich's Solera maturation system.
  • Glenfiddich 12 Year Old Rum Cask Finish – combining traditional Speyside character with rum-cask influences.
  • Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Sherry Cask Finish – highlighting the distillery's long relationship with sherry maturation.
  • Glenfiddich 18 Year Old Port Cask Finish – a particularly noteworthy release featuring Glenfiddich's first single malt finished in Port pipes.

The collection has been developed by Malt Master Brian Kinsman and offers an interesting opportunity to compare the influence of different cask types within one distillery's range.

The 18 Year Old Port Cask Finish is arguably the standout for enthusiasts interested in unusual maturation techniques.

Glengoyne Spirit of Time 18 Year Old Oak Reserve Edition

September 2026 brought news of a new travel retail addition from Glengoyne.

The Spirit of Time 18 Year Old Oak Reserve Edition marks the return of an 18-year-old Glengoyne expression to the travel retail market after more than a decade.

Matured predominantly in American oak sherry butts, the whisky promises notes of red apple, toffee and gentle oak spice.

It joins the existing Spirit of Time collection, which includes the 12 Year Old First Fill Edition and 15 Year Old Pedro Ximénez Cask Edition.

For Glengoyne enthusiasts, the return of the 18-year-old age statement to airport shelves is especially welcome.

Tamdhu American Oak Reserva 14 Year Old

Another new release announced in September comes from Speyside distillery Tamdhu.

The American Oak Reserva 14 Year Old continues Tamdhu's emphasis on Oloroso sherry cask maturation, with particular attention given to first-fill American oak.

Bottled at 46% ABV, this 70cl expression carries a recommended retail price of £89.99.

Its announced tasting profile includes roasted hazelnuts, crème brûlée, orange blossom, chocolate-covered dates and warm cinnamon.

This is a promising addition for whisky drinkers who particularly appreciate sherried Speyside single malts.

Highland Park 17 Year Old – Between You and I: Journeys

September also saw Highland Park introduce a special 17-year-old travel retail expression developed in collaboration with artist Laila Gohar.

Between You and I: Journeys is distinct from the accompanying 17-year-old release available through conventional retail.

The airport-exclusive version combines new Spanish oak, ex-bourbon and sherry-seasoned casks to explore cinnamon spice, chocolate, vanilla and Highland Park's characteristic aromatic smoke.

The whisky is bottled at 48.8% ABV, and its artistic presentation makes it especially interesting to collectors looking for unusual releases from the Orkney distillery.

Bowmore Captivo Sherry Cask Pursuit – A New Islay Exclusive

Announced in October 2026, Bowmore Captivo Sherry Cask Pursuit is one of the year's more luxurious travel retail introductions.

Created in collaboration with New York design studio Snarkitecture, this 20-year-old Islay single malt is bottled at 51.8% ABV and forms part of the new Captivo Collection.

The whisky is scheduled to make its initial appearance in China, India and South Korea in November 2026, followed by a wider international airport rollout in January 2027.

With an announced price of US$380, this release is firmly positioned at the premium end of the market.

It is an intriguing prospect for Bowmore collectors, although its limited initial geographical availability may make finding a bottle challenging.

Other Noteworthy Travel Retail Whisky Releases in 2026

Beyond the major Scotch whisky launches, several international distilleries have also introduced interesting new travel-exclusive expressions.

Kavalan Solist Madeira Cask single malt whisky bottle with magenta presentation box

Kavalan Solist Madeira Cask

The Taiwanese distillery introduced a one-litre first-fill Madeira cask expression to travel retail in July. Bottled at cask strength, ranging from 50% to 59.9% ABV depending on the cask, it offers an unusual combination of fortified wine influence and Kavalan's distinctive tropical maturation character.

Maker's Mark bourbon whisky bottle with red wax seal, tasting glass and travel accessories

Maker's Mark World Wood Collection – Expedition 01

Launched in October, this new travel retail bourbon combines whiskies finished using Japanese Mizunara, French and American white oak staves. Heathrow is among the airports selected for its initial introduction, making this an especially interesting release for UK travellers.

Hibiki 12 Year Old Japanese whisky bottle and cream presentation box with cherry blossoms

Hibiki 12 Year Old Travel Exclusive Series

Japanese whisky enthusiasts have something special to look for following the return of Hibiki 12 Year Old to international airport retail. Announced in August, the new expression blends whiskies from Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita, with American, Spanish and Mizunara oak maturation influences.

Can You Buy Travel Retail Whisky Without Visiting an Airport?

Although these whiskies are developed for airports and international travel retail, some travel-exclusive releases eventually appear through independent retailers and specialist whisky shops.

For UK whisky enthusiasts, it's worth checking established online retailers and comparing prices before making a purchase.

However, not every expression reaches the domestic market. Some remain exclusive to particular airports, while others are produced in limited quantities and become difficult to find.

It's also worth remembering that travel retail exclusive does not automatically mean better value. Bottle size, alcohol strength, age statement and retail price all deserve consideration.

One-litre expressions can offer particularly interesting value when compared with conventional 70cl bottles, although the price per litre is a better measure than the headline bottle price alone.

Our Thoughts on the 2026 Travel Retail Whisky Releases

This year's announcements demonstrate how important travel retail has become to the whisky industry.

The GlenDronach House Editions and Glenfiddich Voyage Collection stand out for their exploration of cask maturation, while Glengoyne and Tamdhu have introduced appealing new options for lovers of sherried single malts.

For collectors seeking more unusual bottlings, Highland Park's Journeys edition and Bowmore's forthcoming Captivo release offer something quite different.

At Whisky Globetrotters, we'll continue following these releases and keeping an eye on travel retail whiskies that make their way into UK shops.

After all, discovering interesting whisky shouldn't always require a boarding pass.
